Hi again,
I hope all the readers have had a great holiday. This month I am going to talk about the different course requirements required by the University of Arizona compared to the University of Westminster. Moreover, I will discuses, which method is more preferred by students with learning disabilities like myself.
First, when I write course requirements I mean whether the class requires more paper writing or more exams and quizzes. I have found in my travels that, at least the classes I took, at the University of Westminster it is preferred that students take an MCQ (multiple choice quiz) as a pretest worth 25%-30% or your grade and then a final examination worth 60%-70% of your grade, the final consisted of short answer and essay questions. While attending the University of Westminster I only wrote one paper and made one presentation, both for the same class. I took four classes and three were graded only by the MCQ and final.
Furthermore, at the University of Arizona, there is often a paper due in every class, and from one to four exams (often one exam is omitted from the final grade), per class. Some classes require solely papers and some classes, only exams, but often the two are mixed.
It is my opinion that the University of Arizona has a more learning-disabled friendly curriculum. For a student with learning disabilities it is difficult to only have one exam worth 70% because we often use computers and it takes us longer to check spelling and grammar, which teachers prefer. That is why a greater emphasis on papers is good. With a paper, you get the time to write it and once you are finished you can take it to a writing lab, friend, family member, or teacher to proof read it and give you grammatical notes. I realize this is only my opinion, but I believe incorporating more paper writing into the curriculum put a greater majority of students on a level playing field.
Thanks for reading please come back next month.
