Richmond Upon Thames College

AchieveAbility

There are approximately 450 colleges in England and Wales within the Further Education sector which includes general further education colleges, tertiary colleges, sixth-form colleges, agricultural and horticultural colleges, art and design and specialist designated colleges.

Richmond upon Thames College is one of London?s most successful colleges. We have an unrivalled reputation for achieving excellent results whilst providing a friendly, supportive and secure environment in which to study. In 2004 we were the top London further education college in the national league tables; this is a position we consistently hold year after year. Additionally, 897 of our students went on to higher education, including 771 who went to university and 126 to art and design and HE colleges.

The college was established as the first tertiary college in the South East of England in 1977 and today has over 7,000 students, of which almost 5,000 are full-time. There are over 430 full-time equivalent members of staff at the college and the number of courses / subjects offered totals approximately 500. This includes 60 AS/A2 levels, 22 BTEC National Diplomas/Certificates, 17 Intermediate and Introductory/Foundation level courses, and NVQs, Apprenticeships and Entry level courses.

Richmond upon Thames College is situated in Twickenham, just 20 minutes by train from central London and 12km from Heathrow Airport. Twickenham is part of the London Borough of Richmond, considered to be one of the most attractive and desirable areas of London. Richmond upon Thames, a short bus ride from Twickenham, is a historic town located on the beautiful banks of the River Thames with restaurants, riverside pubs and bars, and a multitude of boutiques and fashionable shops to visit.

The college has excellent facilities, with open access computer areas throughout the college, all with internet access. Our library is one of the largest and best-equipped to be found in further education, and the college?s video library is probably the most extensive in the country. The science and mathematics area contains sixteen laboratories and other specialist rooms, and we also have extensive facilities in the Performing Arts and Media, Technology, Languages and Sports Departments.
